(NEWS) A reason to smile: DC Lakha buy a hand-made bullock cart from elderly villagers from Banda

A reason to smile

The smile, which crossed the face of the elderly villagers from Banda when principal secretary social welfare department DC Lakha paid Rs 1000 to buy a hand-made bullock cart from them, was to be seen and believed at the UP Sangeet Natak Akademi auditorium on Tuesday.

Lakha was the chief guest at the state-level advocacy workshop organised by HelpAge India under the Poorest Areas Civil Society (PACS) programme and assured all help to the elderly who had turned up from the three most backward districts of UP — Banda, Barabanki and Unnao — to attend the function.

Lakha told AK Singh, joint director (North), HelpAge India that he would try and ensure that the elderly people of these three most backward villages managed to earn a decent living through their craft. “I would speak to the officials concerned,” he said much to the delight of the villagers.
