Capacity-building programme for women in Bundelkhand region

A capacity-building-cum-awareness generation programme will be organised for rural women in the Bundelkhand region of Madhya Pradesh on May 13 to help create awareness among them and facilitate their socio-economic upliftment.

The programme is being organised by the Rashtriya Mahila Kosh (RMK), an autonomous organisation under the Union Ministry of Women & Child Development.

The programme is also expected to encourage local artisans, handicrafts and food processing, an official press release said.

It said a comprehensive training programme for skill development will be implemented in the region through the Central Social Welfare Board and National Institute of Public Cooperation & Child Development, both organisations under the Ministry of Women & Child Development. Marketing avenues for the local artisans and products of women beneficiaries are proposed to be arranged through Dilli Haat and in regional/local markets.

According to the release, the programme will be held at Nowgong in Chhatarpur District. About 3000 rural women from Bundelkhand region are expected to participate. Union Minister of State for Women & Child Development Krishna Tirath will be the chief guest at the programme. Dr Kiran Chadha, Executive Director of RMK, will also be present. The RMK has sanctioned Rs. 1.15 crores to the seven NGOs of Bundelkhand region which will benefit more than 1100 women beneficiaries.
