Development Alternatives receives Development Marketplace 2009 award for its innovation for communicating climate change risks to rural communities in Bundelkhand:

Two innovations of India are among the top winners of Development Marketplace 2009, a World Bank competition held in Washington USA.

Development Alternatives, a not for profit organisation, received the prestigious Development Marketplace 2009 award for its innovation on creating a reality show for communicating climate change risks to rural women and youth in Bundelkhand.and to undertake adaptation measures.

Development Marketplace 2009 is a very prestigious competition held by World Bank every year. It provides awards to the world’s most innovative projects. This year, World Bank received more than 1700 nominations from across the world. Two projects from India are amongst the winners.

Bundelkhand, where Development Alternatives has been working for twenty years now, is already facing the impacts of climate change and the rural communities immediately need adaptation. The project will be implemented in association with Social Rural Direction.

Development Alternatives (DA) is a not-for-profit research organization involved in innovations, social enterprise and action. Established in 1983 in New Delhi (India), the organization innovates eco-solutions and implements programmes aimed at poverty eradication and environment regeneration.

Social Rural Direction is a specialist development solutions division of RK Swamy BBDO that specializes in rural communication and advertising. It is part of the fourth largest communication group of the country. SRD has over 12 years of experience in undertaking communication centred solutions to development issues.

The other award received by an Indian organisation is by Greenfield Hydroponic systems, Inc. for its innovation in portable solar/wind greenhouse to grow fodder for sustainable dairy farms.
