Bundelkhand University, Jhansi has come to rescue of Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre -super-speciality hospital catering to the needs of gas victims'- even as Barkatullah University, Bhopal delayed affiliation to it for running medical post-graduate courses citing procedural issues over the past year and half. BMHRC inked an MoU with Bundelkhand University to start PhD and research courses on Sunday.

Supreme Court cited in its August 2012 decision ordered Union government to start post-graduate courses at BMHRC, a move to overcome shortage of specialized doctors at the hospital meant for survivors of the 1984 Bhopal gas disaster. Ever since, hospital management has been in touch with Barkatullah University, Bhopal for an affiliation. BMHRC was always told by university administration, the matter would be decided by BU co-ordination committee. But the meeting of committee never took place in the last one and half year.

"We already have an approval from Union government and we are still hopeful about BU affiliation," said BMHRC director Dr Manoj Pandey.

BHMRC inked a MoU with Jhansi-based Bundelkhand University for commencing PhD courses. MoU with Bundelkhand University was inked after nearly four months of wait.

"We were under pressure to implement Supreme Court orders and time was running out," he added. BMHRC officials are now optimistic to start courses soon.
