(Article) Separate Bundelkhand: Answer to woes of farmers in the region
Even as Rahul Gandhi held a Kisan Mahapanchayat in Aligarh, Rashtriya Lok Dal
president Ajit Singh organised a parallel event in Bundelkhand's Mahoba district
on Saturday.
Raising his pitch for a separate Bundelkhand state, Singh maintained it to be
the only answer to woes of farmers in the region. Addressing farmers in Mahoba,
Singh blamed all the previous and the present regimes for the pathetic state of
the drought ravaged region.
"The government receives annual revenue of Rs 50,000 crore from the region. But,
the budget allocated by the government is not even one-fourth of it," he said.
Stating that the demand for Bundelkhand dates back to 1955, when state
reorganisation commission was set up, Singh said, "The pitch for a separate
Bundelkhand state has been getting stronger since 1989.
