Bundelkhand, Naxal-hit districts next on Shahi’s list
After his tour of western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, the new BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi will be heading for Bundelkhand. Shahi, who has been touring the state since he has taken over, said the real issues of Bundelkhand are still untouched and the party will be focusing on these. “The Congress and the BSP may be talking about the problems and the backwardness of Bundelkhand, but their senior leaders prefer to keep away,” he said. “The BJP’s leader of the Vidhan Mandal Dal, Om Prakash Singh, has already spent time in the region to get first-hand information on the issues affecting people and the state of welfare schemes marred by corruption.”
The party will be focusing on the atrocities against farmers, especially in the drought-hit region. The main problem, he said, is drinking water and irrigation facilities. “When Atalji was the PM, a host of schemes like connecting rivers were started but they were delayed and the problem got worse. And in the last six years under the UPA government, there has been no respite,” he said. His Bundelkhand tour will be held in the third week of June and he would be spending around four days there and meet the people. After Bundelkhand, he would head for the Naxal-hit areas of Mirzapur and Sonebhadra.
“Naxalism is one of the major problems, which because of the policies of the Centre, has spread from just two to three states to ten,” he said. “Although the state government, too, is answerable for the growing Naxalism in UP, the UPA also should take responsibility.”
