Committee for the effective execution of the schemes will meet soon in Bundelkhand
A
committee formed by the Planning Commission for the effective execution of the
schemes for the drought-ridden Bundelkhand region, will meet for the first time
on September 8 here .
The committee, headed by Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Montek Singh
Ahluwalia, will meet to review the progress of the schemes under Bundelkhand
package, make new policies for the multi-dimensional development of the region
and increase coordination between the state governments of Uttar Pradesh and
Madhya Pradesh, under which the region falls.
Aditya Jain, an MP from the region who is also a member of the committee,
told reporters that the committee was formed for quick and overall development
of the most backward region.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi moved by the plight of the farmers of
the region envisioned the progress of the region and the Central Government gave
the package of Rs 7,266 crore to make his dream come true, Mr Jain said.
There should be no objection, if the Planning Commission forms a committee which includes MPs from the region for effective and transparent execution of the schemes meant for the development of the region, he asserted.
The 15-member committee which was formed after a Government Order, also
includes MPs from the region.
Besides Mr Jain, the committee include Union Minister of State for Planning V
Narayansamy, BSP MPs R K Singh Patel and Vijay Bahadur and SP's Ghanshyam
Anuragi and BJP's Ashok Argal and Jitendra Singh Bundela.
Mr Jain said the development of the region could only be possible by the
joint efforts of the Central and the state governments.
The MP said the region was marred by drought and development had also bypassed
the region for decades. There were lots of tourism and employment opportunities
in the region but both of the state government always ignored it and made the
situation from bad to worse, he added.
