(NEWS) Centre to hold exclusive meeting with UP Govt on Bundelkhand Issues

Succumbing to the pressure of the Uttar Pradesh government, the UPA government at the Centre has called for a meeting exclusively with the former over effective implementation of development programmes and welfare schemes in Bundelkhand region next month.

The proposed meeting is likely to be held on November 10, but its venue with be announced shortly. The meeting could be held either in Lucknow or Jhansi.

Union Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Kumar Jain 'Aditya', an MP from the Bundelkhand region, told UNI here today that the Centre was serious about the development of Bundelkhand.

Therefore, it has agreed to hold a separate meeting with UP despite it having boycotted the last meeting.

''The next meeting would try to find a way for effective implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(NREGS) and otherdevelopment and welfare programmes so that farmers get maximum benefit,'' he said.

UP had boycotted the last tripartite meeting on Bundelkhand held in Orcha in Madhya Pradesh early this month. The meeting was proposed betweenCentre, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, but in the absence of UP, senior officials of the Centre and MP deliberated on steps to eradicate poverty from this region.

But this time the meeting would be held between officials of the Union Government and Uttar Pradesh government only.
