Centre to launch Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of adolescent girls (RGSEAG-SABLA) over Bundelkhand
In the midst of the bitter turf war between the Centre and state over Bundelkhand, here comes another sop for the parched and impoverished region. Come mid-November and the Union ministry of women and child development is all set to launch the Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of adolescent girls (RGSEAG-SABLA) in 22 select districts in UP. By a "happy coincidence" the list for the 100 per cent funded project includes five districts Chitrakoot, Lalitpur, Banda, Mahoba and Jalaun from Bundelkhand.
The selection, the letter sent from the ministry to the department of women and child welfare clarifies, is made "on the basis of a compromise index based on indicators relevant to the condition of adolescent girls (AGs) across the country". Nestled among the beneficiary AGs in naxal infested areas like Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Shrawasti (one of the top districts in the country notorious for child marriages) are their counterparts from Rahul and Sonia Gandhi's constituencies -- Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharajnagar and Rae Bareli as well. Apart from these, the group has Lucknow, Agra, Bijnor, Saharanpur, Bulandshahr, Farrukhabad, Sitapur, Deoria and Bahraich.
The scheme aims at improving the nutrition and health status by promoting awareness about health, hygiene, adolescent reproductive and sexual health apart from upgrading their home based skills for the target group which will also have substantial numbers from the out of school segment, said Balvinder Kumar, principal secretary in the department of women and child welfare.

RE: Thanks
The information furnished has been exceedingly useful. I would be adopting a village in Sonbhadra District and to start with, the principal focus would be on Health and Family Welfare. In this regard, I shall be extremely grateful if schemes which are implemented in Sonbhadra district is sent on my mail. Regards.
