Hundreds of activists of the Bundelkhand Ekikrit Party (BEP), demanding a Bundelkhand state, Tuesday vandalised a railway station and blocked rail tracks in Uttar Pradesh's Mahoba district, stopping a train, officials said.
Shouting slogans for creation of a Bundelkhand state, protesters converged at the Ghutai railway station on the outskirts of Mahoba, some 300 km from Lucknow, and stopped the Jhansi-Allahabad Passenger train. At this, a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP took umbrage and asked what was the basis of the statement.
State-owned power producer NTPC on Tuesday said that it would take at least six years to set up the proposed 4,000 MW plant envisaging
an investment of about Rs 18,000 crore in the Bundelkhand region.
NTPC is yet to get in-principle approval from the Uttar Pradesh government for setting up the power project at Bargarh in Chitrakoot district of the state.
"Once the state government gives us in-principle approval, it would not take less than six years for project to get operational," CMD NTPC RS Sharma said.

The Union health ministry has given in-principle approval for setting up an AIIMS-like institute in Jhansi in Bundelkhand. The existing Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Jhansi, which is spread over 350 acres, may be used as the nucleus of the proposed institute, it is learnt.
NEW DELHI: Centre will include five districts outside Bundelkhand for discussions on how to push the development agenda in the backward
seven-district pocket of Uttar Pradesh.
The move may help placate BSP-ruled state which boycotted Centre's joint meeting with Madhya Pradesh to work out how NREGA could be used to fill development gaps in the region which has 13 districts across states lagging far behind the rest.
