Death of minor sparks off tension in Uttar Pradesh
(IANS) The death of a minor, mowed down Friday by a tractor, sparked off violence and tension in Uttar Pradesh's Banda district, the police said.
"Agitated over the death of the nine-year old child, the locals took to the streets, torching the tractor and demanding compensation for the victim's family," police inspector Rameshwar Maurya told IANS over phone.

The DFID-assisted PACS Programme (Interim phase) has launched the NREGS (national rural employment guarantee scheme) Campaign 2008, aiming to document over 2400 testimonials of beneficiaries of the scheme while raising awareness about the provisions of the scheme through village, district and state level awareness drives in 6 programme states. This will be achieved through a PACS programme network of nearly 500 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in a period of six months.
Parched Bundelkhand is flooded with hope
A UNIQUE groundwater recharge scenario has surfaced in Bundelkhand. Till the first week of June, the region was in the grip of a drought that had lasted five years.
It was impossible to find water even at the depth of 125ft. But 15 days of rainfall between June 12 and 30 has flooded Bundelkhand with hope.
When the train pulled out of Delhi station on June 12, Sukhram felt something tug at his heart. The migrant labourer was going home to his two children but had little to take back to them. The thought of his parched, sun-baked land in Kaluguan—a village in Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh’s drought-hit Bundelkhand region—made him feel worse.
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government has planned to set up solar power plants in rural areas, an official said on Friday.
"The solar power plants will be installed in partnership with private players. We have already invited private companies for setting up such plants," principal secretary (non-conventional energy sources) Sudhir Kumar told IANS.
Under the plan, solar power plants up to five megawatt capacity would be set up in villages facing power shortage.
